Mazda Canada Reports Sales for December and 2014 Full-Year

RICHMOND HILL, ON, Jan. 5, 2015 /CNW/ - Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) announced sales for December 2014 today totaling 4,034, which represents a decrease of 11% compared to December 2013.

Sales in December were led by the compact Mazda3 with 2,156 sold. Year to date, the Mazda3 sales have increased by 1% compared to 2013. The CX-5 was the second-best selling model for Mazda in December, and enjoyed its best December on record with 1,347 units sold. The CX-5 continued its strong sales growth, ending the year with a 14% increase versus 2013. In December, 90% of all Mazda vehicles sold were equipped with the fuel-efficient SKYACTIV Technology.

"Our line-up of award-winning SKYACTIV vehicles like the Mazda6, CX-5, and Mazda3 continue to impress drivers with the perfect balance of fuel economy and performance, and this is just the beginning," said Kory Koreeda, President, Mazda Canada. "With the release of the all-new CX-3, MX-5, and Mazda2 coming soon, 2015 will be a banner year for consumers who love to drive."

Mazda ended 2014 with total sales of 72,098, which is an increase of 0.3% versus 2013.  MCI retail-only sales reached 70,401 units, representing an increase of 5% over 2013, further showing the company's reduced reliance on fleet sales which decreased by 65% in 2014. The award-winning Mazda3 was the best-selling model with a total of 40,974 sold, ending the year up 1% over 2013. The CX-5 compact crossover once again rose to the second place spot, finishing with a record-high 19,920 sales, for an increase of 13% over 2013. Third spot on the sales rankings went to NRCAN's Most Fuel Efficient Mini-van award-winning Mazda5 with total sales of 3,678 which is a sales increase of 6% versus 2013 sales.

Mazda's line-up of SKYACTIV Technology-equipped vehicles enjoyed a great year in the eyes of the critics, earning many awards and accolades throughout 2014 including AJAC's Canadian Car of the Year (Mazda6), ALG Residual Value Award (Mazda3), Canadian Automotive Jury's Car of the Year (Mazda3), and many other awards from outlets across the country. 2014 also saw the release of Mazda Unlimited, a new standard factory Unlimited Mileage Warranty, eliminating the distance limitations on Mazda's factory warranty coverage allowing owners to drive as much, or as far, as they want. Looking to 2015 will see the release of a number of hotly anticipated new vehicles, including the all-new MX-5, CX-3, and Mazda2.
