To achieve the sophisticated dynamics required, Mazda

developed a dedicated platform and rotary engine. The 1.3-litre rotary

exhibits unusually high power output for a naturally aspirated engine,

232-horsepower in high-output mode equipped with a 6-speed

manual transmission. The 2008 model RX-8 offers an optional 6-speed

cabin floor. Knee clearance for rear passengers is accommodated

with sculpted front seat backs, and front seat slide rails are optimally

positioned for sufficient rear-seat legroom.

The RX-8’s body shell has no centre pillars, and features a

freestyle door system with front and rear doors opening from the

center, allowing effortless vehicle entry and exit through the surprisingly

large door opening area.

The RX-8 is offered in two, well-equipped trim levels. Standard

features include a 6-speed manual transmission, cloth seats, 18-inch

alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and electronic brake

force distribution (EBFD), front and side airbags, side air curtains, air

conditioning, and fog lights. Fully loaded, the RX-8 adds heated

leather seats (8-way electrically adjustable seat position with lumbar

support for the driver), automatically dimming rear view mirror with

Homelink system, Torsen limited-slip differential, Dynamic Stability

Control, and Xenon headlamps with automatic levelling feature.

Also among the standard features on the 2008 Mazda RX-8 is a

3-year roadside assistance program. Customers can feel secure

knowing that wherever they travel throughout North America should

the need arise they can obtain towing, winching, battery boosting,

emergency fuel delivery, and tire changing services. They will even

get help if locked out of the vehicle. Travel planning services and

emergency travel expense reimbursement are included in the

roadside assistance program.

The 2008 RX-8 is covered by a 3-year or 80,000 km vehicle

warranty that covers every part of the vehicle except those subject to

normal wear. Additional warranties cover powertrain and safety

restraint components for a period of 3 years or 80,000 km, body sheet

metal perforation for 5 years unlimited kilometres and selected

emission control components for 8 years or 128,000 km.
