2008 MX-5 AND MX-5 PRHT
2008 MX-5: AFFORDABLE, FUN-TO-DRIVE ROADSTER
--Softtop and hardtop versions offer top-down fun without sacrificing functionality --

(Richmond Hill, ON): Mazda re-created a segment for

affordable, fun-to-drive roadsters when it first introduced the MX-5

Miata. 18 years later, it retains the fun-to-drive qualities of the original

and continues to be the best selling sports car in the world. For 2008,

Mazda Canada will offer the MX-5 in three versions: GX, GS and GT,

with the Power Retractable Hard Top offered as an option on all trim

grades.

The 2008 MX-5 GX is ideal for driving enthusiasts looking for an

affordable sports car. Standard equipment includes a 166-

horsepower, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing; 5-

speed manual transmission; 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/50R16 tires; 4-

wheel disc brakes; anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake force

distribution (EBFD); front and rear stabilizer bars; power windows and

door locks; AM/FM/CD with 6-speakers and steering wheel mounted

audio controls; tilt steering; cruise control; keyless entry; and fog lamps.

A 6-speed sport-shift automatic transmission, air conditioning, and a

power retractable hard top are available options.

For sports car lovers who are especially looking for an

exhilarating driving experience, Mazda Canada offers the 2008 MX-5

GS. Upgrades from the GX model include a 6-speed manual

transmission; 17-in alloy wheels with 205/45R17 tires; limited slip

differential (LSD); dynamic stability control (DSC); strut tower bar; and

sport-tuned suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers. Air conditioning

and a power retractable hard top are available options.

If luxurious amenities are of prime importance then the 2008

MX-5 GT is available. The GT model comes equipped with a 6-speed

manual transmission; 17-inch alloy wheels with 205/45R 17 tires; ABS with

EBFD; strut tower bar; Xenon (HID) headlights; 6 disc in-dash CD player;

heated leather seats; cloth convertible top (vinyl on GX and GS); air

conditioning; side airbags; smart card keyless entry; and Bose® audio

system with 7-speakers.

For the 2008 model year a Performance Package is available on

the MX-5 GT with manual transmission that includes a limited slip

differential, dynamic stability control, and sport suspension with Bilstein

shock absorbers. A 6-speed automatic transmission with steering

wheel-mounted paddle shifters is also available as an option, as is a

power retractable hard top.

In developing the optional Power Retractable Hard Top, Mazda

engineers paid close attention to the inevitable gain in vehicle weight,

as this often negatively impacts driving performance. As a result of

careful design and selection of materials the Power Retractable Hard

Top option adds only 36kg to the curb weight of the soft-top model.

To accommodate the 3-piece retractable hard top behind the

seats and incorporate a hard tonneau cover, Mazda redesigned the

rear quarter panels and trunk lid of the soft top model giving the Power

Retractable Hard Top equipped models a distinctive rear end. As well,

to set this option apart from the standard models, chrome garnishes

have been added to the headlamp bezel, front grille surround, and

outer door handles.

Among the many standard features on the 2008 MX-5 is a 3-year

roadside assistance program. Customers can feel secure knowing that

wherever they travel throughout North America should the need arise

they can obtain towing, winching, battery boosting, emergency fuel

delivery, and tire changing services. They will even get help if locked

out of the vehicle. Travel planning services and emergency travel

expense reimbursement are included in the roadside assistance

program.

The 2008 Mazda MX-5 is covered by a 3-year or 80,000 km

vehicle warranty that covers every part of the vehicle except those

subject to normal wear.

Additional warranties cover powertrain and safety restraint

components for a period of 5 years or 100,000 km, body sheet metal

perforation for 5 years unlimited kilometres and selected emission

control components for 8 years or 128,000 km.
