2012 MX-5: Open-air motoring at an attainable price
Best-selling roadster offers top-down options

(Richmond Hill, ON): For more than 20 years, the MX-5 Miata has offered sports car enthusiasts a pure, simple, fun-focused roadster at an attainable price. Sticking to that simple concept has made the MX-5 the most popular two-seat convertible sports car in the world, according to the experts at the Guinness Book of World Records, with more than 900,000 sold worldwide. 2 power folding hardtop, the MX-5 Special Version will ensure you attract unnecessary attention everywhere you go. Unique gun-metal 17-inch wheels and black mirrors contrast the red exterior and allude to a subtle dark side of the car. The attitude doesn’t stop when you get inside and put the top down, as the roll bars continue the Brilliant Black theme along with piano black inserts on the dash and steering wheel. Heated black leather seats feature unique sand-coloured stitching, which also appears throughout the rest of the interior. The heart of the 2012 MX-5 remains a highly-responsive MZR-series 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing that produces 167 horsepower (158 for automatic transmission-equipped models). Standard equipment on the GX trim is a 5-speed manual transmission, while the SV, GS, and GT models come with a 6-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with manual-shift mode and overdrive is available as an option all trims, with a lockup torque converter and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters added to the gearbox on GS and GT trims. Standard features include 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/50R16 tires, four wheel disc brakes, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBFD), front and rear stabilizer bars, dual front airbags and side impact airbags, power windows and door locks, AM/FM/CD with MP3 and WMA functionality, steering wheel-mounted cruise control and audio controls, an auxiliary audio input, tilt steering, keyless entry, and fog lamps. Air conditioning is available as an option. For serious sports car lovers who are especially looking for an exhilarating driving experience combined with maximum handling capabilities, Mazda offers the 2012 MX-5 GS. Upgrades from the GX model include a 6-speed manual transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels with 205/45R17 tires, Limited Slip Differential (LSD), strut tower bar, Power Retractable Hard Top, and sport-tuned suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers. In addition, the GS adds standard air conditioning with climate control, trip computer, premium decorative dash trim, and a mesh type front grille with chrome trim. Should you prefer an MX-5 with an equal dash of sport and luxury, the 2012 MX-5 GT should fit the bill. The GT model comes equipped with leather seats with adjustable heating, Xenon (HID) headlights, a premium Bose® audio sound system with 7-speakers and a 6-disc in-dash CD player, SIRIUS satellite radio, a Bluetooth® hands-free phone system with Audio Profile music streaming capability, auto-dimming rear-view mirror with HomeLink®, and a smart keyless entry system. Additional standard equipment on 6-speed manual models is the Limited Slip Differential, and sport suspension with Bilstein® shock absorbers. In developing the Power Retractable Hard Top, Mazda engineers paid close attention to the inevitable gain in vehicle weight, as this often negatively impacts driving performance. As a result of careful design and selection of materials the Power Retractable Hard Top option adds only 37 kg to the curb weight of the soft-top model. To accommodate the 3-piece retractable hard top behind the seats and incorporate a hard tonneau cover, Mazda redesigned the rear quarter panels and trunk lid of the soft-top model giving the Power Retractable Hard Top equipped models a distinctive rear end. As well, to set this option apart from the standard models, chrome garnishes have been added to the headlamp bezel, front grille surround, and outer door handles. The 2012 Mazda MX-5 is also equipped with Mazda’s Brake Override system. This system always prioritizes the brake pedal over the accelerator pedal, should both be engaged simultaneously, allowing the vehicle to be brought to a safe stop every time. Activation of this system is recorded in the electronic Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Among the many standard features on the 2012 MX-5 is a 3-year roadside assistance program. Customers can feel secure knowing that wherever they travel throughout North America should the need arise they can obtain towing, winching, battery boosting, emergency fuel delivery, and tire changing services. They will even get help if locked out of the vehicle. Travel planning services and emergency travel expense reimbursement are included in the roadside assistance program. The 2012 Mazda MX-5 is covered by a 3-year or 80,000 km vehicle warranty that covers every part of the vehicle except those subject to normal wear. Additional warranties cover powertrain and safety restraint components for a period of 5 years or 100,000 km, body sheet metal perforation for 5 years unlimited kilometres and selected emission control components for 8 years or 128,000 km.
