TORONTO, July 4, 2012 /CNW/ - Mazda Canada announced sales for June 2012 today, showing an increase of 3% over June 2011. With a total of 7,250 vehicles sold, Mazda Canada continues strong year-to-date sales, which are up 8% over 2011. Total sales for the first half of 2012 were 37,607.
June sales were led by Mazda3, selling 4,089 units and adding to year-to-date growth of 10% for the nameplate. Mazda3 is available with new fuel-saving SKYACTIV Technology, and sales were once again spurred by this new powertrain, contributing to 35% of all Mazda3 sales in June. With more horsepower and better fuel economy than most cars in its class, the Mazda3 is the perfect compact car for consumers who want to squeeze more kilometres out of every tank of gas without giving up the fun-to-drive characteristic possessed by every Mazda.
"Mazda3 has always been an important part of our line-up, and with the availability of the all-new SKYACTIV Technology, the Mazda3 has become the starting point in a new era of Mazda products," said David Klan, Senior Director, Sales, Marketing and Regional Operations, Mazda Canada. "We continue this journey forward with the CX-5, our first fully-SKYACTIV vehicle, which arrived earlier this year".
CX-5 demand continues to outstrip supply in Canada, as well as in all other markets globally. In response to this global demand for Mazda's SKYACTIV Technology, Mazda Motor Corporation announced yesterday (July 3) it will double production capacity at its engine plant in Hiroshima, Japan.
