Media Statement Regarding Mazda6

RICHMOND HILL, ON (May. 21, 2021) – Throughout Mazda’s 100-year history, we have continually proven the ability to shift with changing market preferences, providing beautifully designed vehicles that are fun to drive in the segments consumers want. As consumer interests continue to shift towards crossover vehicles, Mazda Canada has decided to end sales of the Mazda6 sedan with the current 2021 model year.

As the flagship sedan in our lineup, the Mazda6 represented premium design, performance, quality, and safety, and helped shape the brand throughout the three generations that were sold in Canada. As remarkable a vehicle as the Mazda6 was, it faced adverse conditions in an ever-shrinking segment as consumers abandoned sedans in favour of taller, more versatile crossover vehicles.

This shift toward crossover segments presents an opportunity for future growth for our brand. Mazda Canada will focus on continuously improving our award-winning CX-line of crossover vehicles, which includes the CX‑3, CX-30, CX‑5, and CX‑9. In the near future, Mazda will grow the crossover lineup with its first battery electric vehicle, the MX-30, and an upcoming all-new crossover to be produced in the U.S. These vehicles will provide the practicality and versatility that today’s buyers are seeking, paired with Mazda’s signature characteristics of premium design and craftsmanship, excellent driving dynamics, and top safety ratings.

Production of the 2021 Mazda6 for the Canadian market will end in July 2021.
