MEDIA ALERT - Mazda's Acclaimed Educational Outreach Program Comes to Whitby, Ontario

Students from Durham District School Board High Schools to Experience Automaker's New R.A.C.E. Program

WHITBY, ON, May 29, 2014 /CNW/ -

 

WHAT:   Through its newly launched "Racing Accelerates Creative Education" (R.A.C.E.) program,
Mazda will motivate Durham District School Board high schoolers with real-world, exciting
demonstrations of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) applications used
throughout Mazda's Motorsports activities and the automobile industry.
   
  Onsite at its first R.A.C.E. event in Canada will be Mazda's SKYACTIV-D Clean Diesel
Prototype Racecar, Mazda's professional race car driver Joel Miller in his fire-retardant
driving suit, and an aerodynamics demonstration using actual racecar components.
Mazda will present the following to more than 600 high school students from around
the Durham District School Board who will convene at Sinclair Secondary School:
 
  • A powerful, fully illustrated, interactive presentation that's designed to helps
    students connect how science, technology, engineering and math are central
    to Mazda's success on the race track, as well as in the marketplace.
   
WHEN:   Monday, June 2, 2014
9:15-11:15 a.m. and 1:00-2:30 p.m. *Note to media: There will be two presentations.
   
WHO:  Kyle Kimball, Manager, Mazda Motorsports; Joel Miller, Mazda Motorsports factory
driver and engineer; Martyn Beckett, Director of Education at Durham District School
Board; David Klan, Senior Director of Sales, Marketing and Regional Operations at
Mazda Canada; and more than 600 Durham District School Board high school students.

WHY:   Mazda is an engineering-based company that hopes to motivate the next generation
of STEM superstars. Mazda's prototype racing program would not exist without STEM!
   
OTHER:  Mazda is racing with domestic, renewable, synthetic clean diesel fuel. The students will
learn how their trip to a local fast food restaurant - with a dash of science - helps to
power Mazda's 200-mph race cars.
