Led by Emmy®-nominated director Paul Hunter and shot by Academy Award®–winning cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema, 5 Sides of the All‑New CX‑5 brings the 2026 Mazda CX‑5 to life through five original short films.
RICHMOND HILL, ON, April 1, 2026 /CNW/ - Today, Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) unveiled 5 Sides of the All-New CX‑5, a cinematic campaign that introduces the all‑new 2026 Mazda CX‑5 through five original stories, each crafted in a different film genre. Designed to showcase the multifaceted character of Mazda's popular SUV, the short films use genre‑based storytelling to illustrate how the all‑new Mazda CX‑5 is intended to offer drivers more across the twists, turns, moods and moments of everyday life.
Developed as a cinematic collection, each film features the same heroine and the same vehicle, but with a dramatically shifting tone, aesthetic and narrative style. The five sides are brought to life through five film styles -- Action, Musical, Sci-Fi, Romance and Horror -- each spotlighting key technologies and design elements of the 2026 Mazda CX-5:
- Action -- Titled MORE THRILL, focuses on the 360° View Monitor and driver-confidence technologies that put the driver in complete command of every moment on the road.
- Musical -- Titled MORE PASSION, spotlights how the CX-5's Google built-in connectivity and expressive interior design transform every drive into a stage of its own.
- Sci-Fi -- Titled MORE DISCOVERY, showcases how the updated rear cargo capacity and interior lighting transform the cabin into a space that feels brighter, open, and ready for whatever adventure comes next.
- Romance -- Titled MORE CONNECTION, highlights how Google built-in connectivity keeps drivers effortlessly in touch with their loved ones throughout the journey.
- Horror -- Titled MORE CONFIDENCE, places the Mazda i-Activsense® as the hero by having the safety suite working quietly through every twist in the road.
"Just like the all‑new Mazda CX‑5, our customers are dynamic and multifaceted, so exploring that through different genres was a fun and meaningful way to bring the story to life," said Neal Bouwmeester, Director of Marketing, Mazda Canada Inc. "These films are bold, cinematic and larger than life, yet at their core, each one reflects a different side of who our customers are. The CX‑5 is a vehicle that supports you through every season of life-- from the everyday to the extraordinary."
To bring this vision to life, Mazda enlisted an A‑list filmmaking team. Each film stars rising actress Jessamie Waldon-Day and is directed by Emmy®‑nominated filmmaker Paul Hunter (Tyrese Gibson: Shame, Apple TV+: Government Cheese, Bulletproof Monk), whose body of work spans iconic music videos, scripted television, feature films and commercials. Cinematography is led by Academy Award®–winning director of photography Hoyte Van Hoytema (Interstellar, Dunkirk, Oppenheimer), lending each film a cinematic aesthetic that evolves with its genre.
Now in its third generation, the all-new Mazda CX-5 builds upon the standout values that have made it Mazda's best-selling vehicle in Canada, with an emphasis on adept driving dynamics, a quiet, refined cabin and an unwavering commitment to vehicle and occupant safety.
All five films will premiere across Canada in spring 2026, rolling out on broadcast, digital and social platforms.
